My Journey

$710

This represents a sea turtle and what it has seen on its journey.
The gold diamond shapes around the shell’s rim are warriors. We used diamond-shaped spear tips and shields to protect ourselves when hunting.
In the centre is me, a young Yorta Yorta man on my journey at 14 years old. This was my first time hunting alone after being taught to hunt and survive by my Elders and older brothers.
At early sunrise, on the Lake Condah mission, I was sent out alone in the bush to hunt. I trapped a kangaroo in a dried-up waterhole, threw my spear and missed. As I went to throw again, the roo came jumping straight at me. I got scared, moved out of the way, and the roo got away.
The dotted circles represent our Dreamtime. Each circle is a story being told and passed down from our Ancestors and Elders, past and present, continuing our tradition for thousands of years to come. This is another story being told, to be passed down to my children.

More information

What is artwork stretching?
Your stretched and ready to hang painting will come complete with D-rings, hanging wire, and a small artwork label affixed to the back.

Why can’t I select unstretched canvas?
Some of our paintings are painted close to the edge of the canvas, and don’t have a border wide enough for standard stretching. These artworks will be ‘strip-lined’ with a quality cotton edging. As this is a boutique process, these paintings must be stretched by The Torch and are not available to be shipped as unstretched artworks.

Some paintings may also be unavailable unstretched because they have already been stretched for use in exhibitions.

How much will the artist receive?
100% of the artwork price, set before the stretching and delivery costs are added, is paid directly to the artist.

More information about artwork stretching, shipping costs and timelines can be read here.
