Webb

Webb has been a participant of The Torch program since 2020. His art tells a powerful story of movement, resilience, and personal transformation. Each painting reflects a chapter of his journey, through incarceration, self-reflection, and growth; and his determination to move forward toward family, freedom, and cultural reconnection.

Symbolism plays a central role in Webb’s work. The red-tailed black cockatoo represents his own spirit in flight, soaring beyond the fences of confinement, while other birds symbolise those still inside. Animals such as snakes, kangaroos, and fish embody his lived experiences, family ties, and connection to Country. The trouts in his paintings honour his parents coming together from different places to bring him into the world, while the snake and kangaroo reflect perseverance, survival, and the challenges faced along life’s path.

For Webb, painting has become a vital tool for reflection and healing. His art speaks of strength, hope, and the journey of finding one’s way home.
