D.Kerr Yorta Yorta people
D.Kerr is a proud Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung artist, who grew up across the Mallee region but is connected most to Swan Hill.
D. Kerr paints on canvas and weaves mostly but also enjoys drawing and using watercolours. Emotion is the driving motivator behind D. Kerr’s art pieces. She experiences many feelings when creating but hopes the viewer can connect how they may need to and take what they may need when viewing her work.
“I enjoy knowing others are looking at my work, connecting with and enjoying it. I hope it makes people feel something and they’re able to look through a tiny window of me.”
To D.Kerr, being an artist allows her to connect culturally, grow personally and express herself. It has helped her learn about herself, her culture and where she is from. Each time D.Kerr creates, it takes her on a much needed spiritual journey. Each of her works can be seen to feature her personal totem, Waa. In the future D.Kerr is going to continue to explore and try different art forms and sharing it with the world.
