Ricky Abrahams Gunditjmara people

Ricky is a proud Gunditjmara man who grew up in Geelong and has family connections to the Wathaurong people in the Barwon South West region of Victoria. Most of Ricky’s work is inspired by the landscape, the Gellibrand River and memories of native mammals such as the platypus. Ricky first joined The Torch in 2018, exhibiting in The Torch’s annual Confined exhibition with his painting call 'The Ripple Effect' representing the choices he has made in life and the ripple effect of those choices.

Ricky’s medium of choice is acrylic paint; he enjoys using vibrant colours such as blue, white and brown to represent the land and sea. Ricky usually combines a dot-painting technique to create his background landscapes and line work to render his animals. Most of Ricky’s paintings reconnect him back to Country and now he’s keen to explore his totem—the Red-tailed black cockatoo—in his art.
