Steve grew up in Melbourne with little knowledge of his Aboriginal culture or family history. His sister started tracing their family's heritage and their move from Tasmania to Melbourne. The new places in Steve's life are the ocean and rivers of Victoria where he spends a great deal of his time thinking and fishing.
