Torch Arts Officer Matty Chilly selected for Blak Design

The Torch is thrilled to announce that Arts Officer Matty Chilly (Wiradjuri/Wemba Wemba/Mutti Mutti/Yorta Yorta/Waddi Waddi/Barapa Barapa/Gubbi Gubbi peoples) has been selected for the Blak Design program – fashion and textiles.

As part of the Blak Design program, Matty will undertake intensive hands-on workshops; learning and refining their fashion and textile skills. They will be mentored by leading industry experts. Over the year, participants will also take part in a series of hands-on intensive design and making workshops, as well as small business skills workshops, along with access to industry and cultural mentors, design professionals, and industry practitioners.

The Program will be delivered at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Fed Square and in RMIT University’s renowned School of Fashion and Textiles from January 2024.

At the end of the year, participants will have designed and created individual pieces with the intention of being showcased in an end of year exhibition. As part of the professional development opportunity, participants will also work closely with the Koorie Heritage Trust curatorial team in the exhibition development and design.
