The Torch is delighted to welcome Nari Nari/Wemba Wemba artist Brodie Peters-Godden to the team as First Nations Trainee – Operations Support.
Brodie Peters-Godden is a proud Nari Nari/Wemba Wemba man who grew up in Mildura. Since joining The Torch’s program in 2023, Brodie has embarked on a transformative journey, overcoming significant challenges and is now focused on creating positive change. He has a strong connection to culture and art and is passionate about giving back to his community. His artwork featured in ‘Future Dreaming’ in 2024 at The Torch Gallery, Carlton.
Brodie is stepping into this new role as well as undertaking a Certificate IV in Community Services as part of the Wadamba Prison to Work Program.
Wadamba is a supported pathway to employment for Aboriginal men and women aged 18 to 35 who are on remand. The program operates at The Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, the Metropolitan Remand Centre, Loddon Prison, Marngoneet Correctional Centre, and Karreenga Correctional Centre, providing participants with access to employment services, career guidance, and cultural support both in custody and post-release.
Participants sign up for Wadamba while in the system, gaining structured support that helps them become job ready. The program connects them with culturally safe employers, training opportunities, and mentoring, ensuring a holistic transition into the workforce upon release.
Supported by Wadamba, Brodie will develop his business operations and administration skills through his role at The Torch and studies at Certificate IV in Community Services. His traineeship is an opportunity for him to build professional skills, gain hands-on experience, and receive ongoing cultural and career support.
We’re proud to be supporting Brodie and working alongside Wadamba to create meaningful employment pathways for our First Nations artists.
Welcome to the team, Brodie!
