Alisha F shares the story behind her artwork featured on Reece’s Reconciliation Action Plan

Wadawurrung artist, Alisha F, who joined The Torch program in 2023, is known for her acrylic on canvas works that often incorporate waterways, animals, and cultural symbols. Her latest painting, Water Sources Life (Ngubitj Sources Murrun), was commissioned by Reece for their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2026–2028.

This powerful artwork reflects the vital role water plays in sustaining Indigenous culture, community, and Country. Alisha explains,

the vibrant orange areas represent Karrung Larr (meeting grounds), places of connection and gathering. Flowing through the painting, the deep blues illustrate a riverway surrounded by land with waterholes. These elements together symbolise sanctuary, community, and the life-giving force of water.”

Water Sources Life (Ngubitj Sources Murrun) draws a connection between traditional Indigenous knowledge of irrigation and the modern values of Reece Plumbing. For over 60,000 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have understood that water is not just a resource but the foundation of life. Alisha’s painting reflects how both ancient and contemporary practices centre water as essential to living, building, and thriving.

Just as communities have always gathered where water flows, Reece Plumbing continues to support families and communities through access to water and irrigation. Water sustains all life. It is, and always has been, the source of life.”

The Torch is proud to collaborate with Reece on their RAP journey and looks forward to seeing them continue driving positive change and helping shape a better future for First Peoples.
