BMAC Wadawurrung people

Drawing strength from a strong female line, BMAC is a Wadawurrung man born and raised in Geelong, Victoria. Ceasing high school at year nine, BMAC went on to complete a Certificate Three in Community Service and began working as a tattoo artist.
‘I’ve always been into art and [been] artistic since a young age’, he shares. ‘My mother has always been very good at art. She used to teach me things. She also put me in art classes when I was young’.
BMAC enjoys creating ‘something from nothing’. From a blank surface to seeing the end result, it gives him ‘peace at mind’ he says. ‘When I’m painting, I’m not thinking or worrying about anything else at the time’.
BMAC reflects his sense of peace on the canvases themselves by using soft pastels and extensive dot work. ‘I love doing anything that tells a story…the one thing that inspires me is our culture. I just love that our culture has its own style of artwork, and I believe it’s the best style of art’.
Yet, to BMAC his art goes above and beyond just storytelling. It is keeping culture ‘strong and alive…so it never gets lost’.
‘I love when a painting brings a smile to someone’s face’, he states. ‘And I just hope, as an artist, I can bring joy and happiness to someone when they look at my artwork’.
