Jeza Yorta Yorta/Wemba Wemba people

Jeremy Jose is a proud Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba man. With a strong lineage to Moonacullah Mission on the Edwards River. Jeremy is currently based in Narrm and was born in Warragul on GunaiKurnai country and spent his formative years on Bunurong country. Being exposed to art through Jeremy’s Family and brothers in the prison community Jeremy began a painting practice in his early 30’s and excelled from being apart of The Torch program. Through his paintings Jeremy combines significant features of Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba storytelling with his personal lived experiences to create works that speak to themes of spirituality, loss and connections to family and country. Thus, his paintings act as a cathartic process which assist to regain personal connection to family ,culture and share his story to a wider audience. Jeremy Jose has participated in the Torch Project for 5 years and has consistently shown in The Torch’s annual ‘Confined’ and ‘Future Dreaming’ exhibitions.
