Dylan B Gunaikurnai people

Dylan.B grew up in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne and has heritage ties to both Gunaikurnai and Palawa Peoples.
Completing a Certificate III in Mechanics, Dylan has spent most of his working life as a labourer but has always loved art and took up painting as a teenager using spray cans. ‘It wasn’t until I turned 18 and went to prison for the first time that…I got to learn about my Indigenous Culture and built connections through my art’, he states.
‘I’m drawn to the modern contemporary style with bright colours, but with traditional linework,’ he says of his paintings. ‘I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different styles and techniques.’
For Dylan, painting is more than just expression, experimentation, and style. It’s a journey of recovery and of healing. ‘Through my artwork I get to tell stories and build connections’, he shares. ‘I want to be able to teach the younger generations about art practice and help them to connect to their cultural roots without going to prison like I did’.
