Rodney B Yorta Yorta people

Born in 1991, Rodney B is a proud Yorta Yorta man and a dedicated artist whose work reflects a deep connection to culture, Country, and ancestral knowledge. Since joining The Torch program in 2016, Rodney has been actively painting, using his art as a powerful expression of identity, survival, and continuity.

Rodney’s practice is grounded in the interconnectedness of land, people, and tradition. His works often reflect the resourcefulness and ingenuity of his ancestors, drawing attention to how trees and the natural environment provided - and continue to provide - everything needed for life: from tools, weapons, and shelter to food, fire, and cultural practices. Through his art, Rodney shares stories of strength, resilience, and harmony with nature, offering a window into the knowledge systems that have sustained his people for over 65,000 years.

“For us, everything is connected,” Rodney says. “We take care of the land, and it takes care of us. We are a part of the land.” His works are not only visually striking but deeply educational, inviting viewers to reflect on the enduring wisdom of First Nations peoples and the responsibility we all share in caring for Country.
