S. Morrison grew up in the coastal town of Marlo, in Victoria, as well as Orbost on the Snowy River and surrounds. ‘My people are from Ceduna, South Australia,’ shares Morrison. ‘Wirangu/Kokatha, Western Desert people. Both my mum and dad come from Aboriginal background.’
Completing TAFE including ‘Cultural Art, Indigenous Land Management, IT, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Hospitality’ and many more courses, Morrison worked in various specialty employment such as with an Aboriginal Co-op and Landscaping, even helping build the Cape Conran Boardwalk, the River Walk on the Snowy River, and the Wingen Inlet walking track.
He comes from a long line of artists. ‘Most of my family has interest and talent in Cultural art,’ he says. ‘I honed my skills at a young age. I love art and commercial art and design’.
Of his work, Morrison says, ‘I enjoy my painting and use it to express my inner self and creativity…and tell my life experiences.’
‘I paint native birds to symbolise freedom, of mind and spirit, with a strong message of positivity…I try to bring an uplifting and free vibe to all my artwork. A sense of belonging to my people, family and friends as well as our beautiful Country and Culture.’
‘Perfection is the enemy of good,’ he states. ‘Sometimes when things feel like they are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place. I would like just one person who sees my art to realise that life is what we make it, you are loved and respected as long as you love and respect.’
