I want future generations to understand their birthright and learn their cultural history. Stories about Baiamee are central to the kinship of the Baranbinja and Ngemba tribes of the Brewarrina region of New South Wales. I had always wondered about the truth of my Country, given the years of cultural damage associated with this land. I’m so relieved to discover much of the history has been preserved for future generations and now, as an Elder, I want to share my Dreamtime. Baiamee is responsible for all things related to this Country. He created our fish traps and gave life to the rivers, to the sea and to all the seeds of life. It is my responsibility as an Elder and artist to continue the practice of storytelling. Stories about the creation of life, about animals, hunting journeys and travelling across Country are the stories our children (jarjams, boori) will learn and carry on in the tradition of our people. This is my journey, this is my story.
