My Journey

I lost my nan and I was doing nothing but getting into trouble in Bega, so me and my mate decided to get out of town and see the sights. So we jumped on the road and went.

This painting represents that journey and tells two stories.

One story is my journey away from our little country town up to Sydney, Canberra, Toowoomba, Cairns and all the way back home again.

It also represents the story of my daughters and all the women that I know from all parts of Australia: Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Alice Springs, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. They have come together to have a meeting about the Dreamtime with their kids. Four girls are sitting down in the corner with their coolamons and their digging sticks.

The top represents Perth, then we’ve got Darwin, Alice Springs and Adelaide. My nan is there in the Milky Way. She’s looking down on my journey.

St Kilda is right down in the bottom left hand corner. St Kilda is my spiritual home. I like St Kilda.
