Murray Cod Generation

The Murray Cod brings family together. We love sitting around the table and talking about where we would catch them. The Barkindji mob used different ways of catching this monster of a fish. A cod would feed the whole family and much more. Back in the days of the ancestors the Murray Cod would grow to over six foot five (nearly 2 metres). One that big could easily bring a man down, so the Murray Cod was well respected. The Murray Cod was called the monster and the Barkindji mob means the river people. There are a lot of paintings of the Murray Cod and the cod has a strong meaning to us Barkindji mob from the old times until today. It is important to continue to talk about Murray Cod to our young ones to keep the family generation going from strength to strength.
