My Journey

If this painting you are looking at is playing tricks on your eyes, well, it’s not. What you’re seeing are beautiful, different, earth colours, a croc that rules our waters in the Northern Territory and barramundi fish that have fed our people for thousands of years. There are boomerangs too, that our people have used as a hunting tool.

Sometimes people think I’m playing tricks on them when I tell people I’m Aboriginal. They ask me “How, when you have white skin?”. I never know what to say and it makes me sad and angry as people generally perceive me as different to what I really am. I love my Grandfather and I get my heritage through him.

I’ve never been more proud of myself as I am today. One or two paintings aren’t the end of my journey but the start of an epic beginning. I am a proud Aboriginal man and through my art I will tell them my stories.
