Mother and Daughter

Everyone has been affected by COVID-19 in one way or another. My partner and I were expecting a baby in the middle of lockdown which made everything much more unpredictable and concerning. The reality was that there were many cases of the virus in the community, and the hospitals were where everyone headed if they contracted it.
Due to COVID restrictions, my partner had to go into hospital alone while I looked after our two young children at home. That is when I started to create this painting.
The painting has many journey tracks, water holes, campsites and meeting places. These represent where we are and where we have been, and where we are going on our journey through life. The two turtles represent my partner and our new baby. This is the story of the love, strength and unity they found together when they were alone in hospital. In all the chaos of COVID, we managed to have a safe birth and home-coming for our beautiful baby girl.

This painting features metallic paint.
